Opposition MP Dr. Harsha de Silva today presented in Parliament a programme to revive Sri Lanka’s economy.
Addressing the Parliament, he called on the leaders of all political parties representing the Parliament to extend their support for this programme.
“I have presented an economic programme that will secure the confidence of local and foreign entities to revive the economy,” he said.
This economic programme has been drafted over the last several months after consultations with experts, scholars, trade unions, politicians, and the public.
The approval of several opposition political parties has also been obtained for this economic plan which is a temporary measure, the MP said.
SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva said that Sri Lanka can be directed toward the right path through this economic plan after which an election can be called for.
“I advise that this economic plan be adhered to by the All-Party Government. I request all political parties in Parliament to extend their support for this programme,” he further said.
Stating that such a move will win both local and international confidence, the MP said that this will enable Sri Lanka to come out of the current economic crisis.
He pointed out that at the moment there seems to be no proper plan for the National Government, as there are indications that there will be 30/40 ministries with a reshuffle of the current Parliamentarians.
“Although I have been invited to accept a ministerial portfolio this will not resolve the issues in the country. I have no need to join any government just to obtain a ministerial portfolio,” Dr. Harsha de Silva further said.
The SJB MP said at present, Sri Lanka requires a Cabinet with fewer ministers combined of both the ruling party and the opposition for a specified period under a specific plan.
Parliamentarian Dr. Harsha de Silva urged all party leaders in Parliament to thereby join together and extend their support for his economic programme for the benefit of the nation. (NewsWire)
