Senior Minister Wimal Weerawansa has expressed a different opinion to most others from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), who had requested to abolish the rule which prevents duel citizens from contesting for Parliament.
Wimal Weerawansa said that he believes individuals with dual citizenships should not be included in state governance.
He also said that National Organizer of the SLPP Basil Rajapaksa will have to renounce his US citizenship in order to be elected as a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
Some SLPP MPs have voiced the opinion that the dual citizenship rule should be abolished in the proposed 20th Amendment in order for Basil Rajapaksa to enter Parliament. (Newswire)
