Police say they have identified an extremist organisation in Puttalam which is connected to the Easter Sunday attack which took place last year.

Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratne addressing a press conference today said that investigations into the Easter attack are now being continued with a new approach.

“Through the investigations carried out last week by the Terrorism Investigation Division and with the information given by a suspect arrested by them, we were able to find out a place in Sampur which was used for weapons training. Apparently, some people were given a basic weapons training, including cleaning, dismantling and refixing such weapons”, He said.

“Information about an organization based in Puttalam has been revealed, which had conducted several extremist religious lectures and projected videos which propagated such ideologies. The lead terrorist Zahran and some other bombers had also visited this place and had given lectures on extremist ideologies” He added.

He also said that another place used for weapon training was also found from Thoppur in Trincomalee and a few weapons which were used for training were also found from there.
