The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) United Trade Union (TU) Alliance today announced that it will go ahead with its protest planned for Wednesday, the 3rd of November, but, there will be no disruption to the power supply during the protest
CEB United Trade Union Alliance Convenor Ranjan Jayalal made the clarification when addressing the media today.
“The protest will be launched to object the sale of national assets to foreign entities and to urge the Government to immediately suspend the agreement with US-based energy company New Fortress Energy Inc over the sale of 40% of shares of the Yugadanavi liquefied natural gas (LNG) Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya,” he said.
Jayalal said the Alliance is ready to stage a large-scale protest on the 3rd of November in this regard.
A petition that has been signed from the 29th of October will be handed over to the relevant authorities on Wednesday (03).
Stating that a protest will definitely be staged as announced, he further said the employees at all power plants will be summoned to Colombo as part of the protest.
“They will be coming from all over the island. So, all I am saying is, if there is an involuntary power outage, no one will be there to fix the problem,” Jayalal said.
While stating that the public will not be intentionally inconvenienced by stopping the electricity supply, Ranjan Jayalal said that in case there is a disruption to the power supply, there will be no one to fix it.
Jayalal added that the Alliance will not take responsibility for any breakdowns reported at power plants during this period. (NewsWire)
