Elephant deaths : CEB introduces new hotline to report illegal power lines

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has introduced a new hotline for the public to inform of any illegal power lines which have severely affected the elephant population in Sri Lanka.

The CEB said that the public can notify the institution of illegal power lines via the hotline ‘1987’.

The measure has been taken in view of the numerous elephant deaths caused due to illegal power lines connected to fences, it said.

The CEB revealed that 50 elephants died in 2023 due to electrocution as a result of illegal power lines. (NewsWire)
