EU grants Euro 18 mn to assist legislature of Sri Lanka

The European Union has agreed upon a grant of Euro 18 million to assist Sri Lanka’s legislature.

The cabinet of Ministers have approved the resolution tabled by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Finance Minister for entering into an agreement of donations with the European Union to obtain the fund.

The cabinet said the grant will be utilised for the implementation of a project named “Project to Assist the Legislature of Sri Lanka”.

The project is being carried out with an objective to establish an improved responsive justice administration system within Sri Lanka through enhancing the access for obtaining service supply quality and service receipt.

The cabinet said it will be implemented by the Ministry of Justice while the total estimated cost will be Euro 19.27 million.

Apart from the provisions allocated by the European Union, the UNICEF and UNDP too have agreed to fund the remaining amount. (NewsWire)
