Army Commander General Shavendra has refuted the allegations levelled by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
United National Party leader Wickremesinghe had earlier criticized the Covid Task Force which was established to curtail the spread of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka, calling for it to be dissolved.
He also criticized the involvement of the tri-forces in the COVID-19 vaccination drive being conducted by the Government.
Responding to the former Prime Minister’s statements, the Army Commander said Wickremesinghe who had criticized the involvement of the tri-forces had obtained his Covid vaccination at the Army Hospital in Narahenpita.
He further said while Wickremesinghe was criticizing the tri-forces, the general public was full of appreciation for their efficient management of the vaccination drive.
The Army Commander said that the National Task Force takes collective decisions after consulting all stakeholders.
The Army Commander further warned the public to take necessary safety precautions as the current wave of the coronavirus is more severe than the previous outbreaks.
Stating that the Government is doing its best to curb the spread of the virus, he called on the public to adhere to the quarantine regulations and to refrain from misusing the chance to travel through provincial borders. (NewsWire)
