A former United National Party (UNP) Municipal Councillor in Colombo has been arrested for the possession of an illegally assembled vehicle.
The 56-year-old female councillor had been arrested following investigations launched by the Police Special Task Force (STF) into an illegally assembled vehicle.
The suspect is said to have used spare parts that were illegally imported in violation of the Customs regulations to assemble the vehicle.
The Police said the spare parts had been imported without a valid permit or document.
They said the suspect had been arrested by the STF in Colombo 13 and has been handed over to the Police for further investigations.
The former UNP Municipal Councillor will be produced in court today. (NewsWire)
