A decision has not been taken to extend the islandwide travel restriction that has been enforced in the country.
Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said no decision has been taken thus far to extend the travel ban beyond the 7th of June.
He said a decision to extend the travel restriction will be taken after obtaining the advise of health experts and other relevant officials.
General Shavendra Silva said a decision on the travel restriction will be taken in the coming days, but no decision has been taken as of this morning.
An islandwide travel restriction was imposed from the 21st-28th May, while it was relaxed on the 25th for the public to purchase essential goods.
The Government thereafter announced that the travel restriction will be extended till the 7th of June.
Even though it had earlier announced that the restriction will be relaxed on the 31st of May and 4th of June, it was later announced that the travel restriction will continue uninterrupted till the 7th of June. (NewsWire)
