Face masks representing candidates used for election campaigning punishable

The Police Headquarters has received a number of complaints from the National Election Commission on the use of face masks for election campaigning displaying details of candidates contesting the upcoming General Election.

In the complaints, the Commission has pointed out that the face masks are reported to have displayed the party symbol, contesting number and the name of the contestant.

The Police have informed the public that it is punishable under the Election Law to use such masks and have requested the public to refrain from such activities.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne has instructed all Police Stations in the country to investigate whether or not such election campaigning is being carried out. (Newswire)
