“Factually incorrect” India denies it approved Sri Lanka’s WCT deal

India today officially disassociated itself with Sri Lanka’s announcement suggesting that India was involved in approving an investment into the West Container Terminal (WCT) in Colombo port.

“India has conveyed to Colombo govt that its media release — saying Indian High Commission “approved” the Adani Group’s proposal for developing the West Container Terminal — was “factually inaccurate”, says @MEAIndia” The Hindu correspondent in Sri Lanka tweeted.

Sri Lanka on Tuesday announced that it has approved a proposal to develop the strategic Colombo Port’s Western Container Terminal (WCT) under a joint venture with India and Japan for a period of 35 years, weeks after it scrapped a trilateral deal with both countries to develop eastern terminal at the same port.
