Two individuals have been arrested for impersonating medical officers and visiting houses that have been placed under quarantine in the Kesbewa area.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspects had pretended to be a doctor and his assistant, claiming to provide a cure for the coronavirus.
The suspects had operated a Facebook page through which they had visited a number of houses placed under quarantine in the Kahapola area in Kesbewa.
The suspects are reported to have charged a fee of Rs. 12,500 for the home visits and treatment.
The Kesbewa Police had launched an investigation into the racket after a complaint was filed by the Medical Officer of Health in charge of Kesbewa.
The Police had thereafter arrested the two suspects and had also seized their van, while interrogations had revealed that they were not medical experts.
The suspects have been accused of violating the quarantine law by entering houses that have been placed under quarantine by health authorities.
DIG Ajith Rohana said they will be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court today. (NewsWire)
