Fake driving licence racket busted

A 61-year-old man from Narahenpita has been apprehended on the charges of creating fake driving licences for individuals from several areas of Sri Lanka.

The suspect was apprehended near Dabare Mawatha in Narahenpita by officials from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday.

The man was found to have seals belonging to the OICs of the Homagama, Ginigathhena, Gampola, Hungama, Ratnapura, Veyangoda, and Kandana Police Stations.

He was also found to have seals similar to that of the Motor Traffic Commissioner General, lawyers, and several private companies.

The suspect had confessed that he had created fake driving licences for individuals from various parts of the country for money, while he had also created fake documents similar to those issued by the Department of Motor Traffic.

The CID is conducting further investigations to ascertain if other individuals were also involved in the fraudulent activity. (NewsWire)
