Counterfeit Rs. 500 currency notes have been seized from a house following a raid conducted by the Police in Seeduwa yesterday.
The Police had seized 602 counterfeit Rs. 500 notes with the serial numbers T/17 758552, T/17 758578, and T/ 17-758779.
The currency notes were seized after two suspects on a motorcycle were found to be in possession of 60 of the fake Rs. 500 notes during a Police inspection.
Further interrogations had led to the Police carrying out a raid on their residence where they found another individual also involved in the currency scam.
The three suspects, aged 21, 43, and 45, have been arrested, while the Police have taken into custody the remaining fake currency notes, printing equipment, a laptop, and a motorcycle.
The fake Rs. 500 notes are suspected to have been circulated in the Seeduwa, Gampaha, Kiridiwela, Wattala, and Ja-Ela areas.
The Public has been requested to remain vigilant of fake currency notes circulating in the local market and to inspect their notes during monetary transactions at public places. (NewsWire)
