The Governor of the Sabragamuwa Province Tikiri Kobbakaduwa yesterday (21) declared open the first bridge to be constructed with used light posts.
“Cost-effective bridges over small stream in Sabaragamuwa Province made from old lamp posts costing 40% of a normal estimated and contracted bridge done by Podujana Engineers Front as CSR 1000 bridge project’, the Governor Tweeted.
“These Bridges are for three wheelers and motorbike and people to get across these small streams. The lamp posts have been tested for such pressure and weight.” he added.
The unique bridge was constructed by the Podujana Engineers Front, which is made up of 5000 engineers from 20 district organizations and intends to construct 10 bridges in 100 electorates with the help of its members and funding from fellow engineers and well-wishers. (Newswire)
