Five individuals who were receiving treatment at the special treatment facility set up to treat COVID-19 patients in Kandakadu have been injured following a clash between two groups of infected patients.
The Welikanda Police said the injured patients were admitted to the special treatment unit of the Welikanda hospital today.
The Director of the Pollonaruwa Hospital Dr. Sampath Indika Kumara said the admitted patients are not critically injured.
Nearly 279 patients detected with COVID-19 from the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre and 84 patients from the Senapura Rehabilitation Centre are said to have been treated at the special treatment facility set up in Kandakadu.
The clash is said to have occurred between two groups from each rehabilitation centre.
The individuals involved in the clash had physically assaulted each other and had also reportedly used cleaning supplies kept at the treatment facility.
Army personnel deployed for the security of the treatment facility are reported to have intervened and broken up the clash. (Newswire)
