The Sri Lankan Rupee has continued to remain steady against several currencies for the second consecutive day today.
The Rupee depreciated drastically on Monday (06), hitting Rs. 300 against the Sterling Pound and crossing the Rs. 2 mark against the Japanese Yen for the first time.
However, the Rupee drastically appreciated against the currencies on Tuesday (07) maintaining the rates it had held the week before.
As per the foreign currency rates issued for today by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, little to no changes have taken place in comparison to the rates issued yesterday.
The forex market remained largely inactive for a second consecutive day following the request by the Central Bank to keep the US Dollar exchange rate at a maximum of Rs. 203.
According to the Daily FT, industry leaders Bank of Ceylon and People’s Bank had not performed any major transactions, including the opening of Letters of Credit (LC) so far and nor have other banks. (NewsWire)
