Former Governor Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon has released a letter submitted by State Minister Arundika Fernando requesting for the transfer of Wennappuwa Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Eric Perera.
The letter published on social media, has been addressed to the Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera.
State Minister Arundika Fernando is said to have requested for the ASP to be transferred out of Chilaw, over various allegations including his appointment during the former Yahapalana Government.
The transfer had caused much controversy, with many claiming that it had been carried out due to undue political influence.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara said ASP Eric Perera who is a resident of Wennapuwa was transferred due to various reasons.
He further said ASP Perera is currently posted at the Negombo Police station based on a request submitted by the latter.
Minister Weerasekara said an investigation is underway into the various reasons cited for ASP Eric Perera’s transfer. (NewsWire)
