Four major cities have been identified for the development of physical resources, while 9 economic corridors have also been identified connecting those cities, Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga said.
According to the Daily News, the minister said that Colombo, Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Jaffna have been identified as the four major cities for the development of physical resources.
Among the cities, Colombo has been identified as the main commercial and financial city in the country and the Urban Development Authority has already published a Gazette on the Colombo City Development Plan for the next 8 years.
Minister Ranatunga said the Hambantota Mega City Development Plan has been prepared for the development of Hambantota city, while Trincomalee has been identified as a major commercial city under the development plan of Trincomalee.
Stating that a development plan is currently being prepared for the Jaffna Peninsula, the minister added that the government has also commenced City Development Projects targetting Dambulla, Kandy, and Galle. (NewsWire)
