Fuel crisis : Fuel station owner’s house torched

The house of the owner of a Lanka IOC filling station located in the Ipalogama area in Anuradhapura has been set on fire by a group last night.

It’s reported that a large number of people have come to his fuel station yesterday to obtain fuel. However, due to insufficient fuel, some people were unable to get fuel.

Following this, it is suspected that an angry mob had set fire to the fuel station owner’s house last night. The owner, his wife and two children were inside the house at the time of the incident.

Residents of the area immediately put out the fire. Police said that several properties were destroyed in the blaze including school equipment and books of the two children.

One of the children is scheduled to sit for the GCE Ordinary Level examination which begins tomorrow, Police further said.

Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara yesterday warned that fuel distribution will be suspended if any violence takes place. (NewsWire)
