Fuel Crisis : Temporary relief with US$ 35 MN worth diesel

Sri Lanka has made a payment of US$ 35.3 million in order to release a fuel tanker that is docked outside the Colombo Port. 

The Secretary to the Ministry of Energy said that the payment has been made to the Singaporean Company that owns the fuel tanker. 

He further said the payment was made last night to release the vessel that contains 37,500 MT of diesel.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Energy added that the unloading of diesel will commence soon.

Meanwhile, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued directives to take steps for a continuous supply of fuel.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said the order was issued during the special Cabinet meeting that was held last evening.

The Minister further revealed that no decision was taken to revise fuel prices, during the meeting. 

Furthermore, Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa will undertake a visit to India on Friday (25). 

He will be accompanied by Treasury Secretary S. R Attygalle during the visit. (NewsWire)
