Galle Face attack : suspect highlighted by social media arrested

A suspect has been arrested by the CID for allegedly attacking a protester at Galle Face on the head with an iron rod.

The 43-year-old suspect was arrested by the CID while hiding in the Hokandara area.

Investigations have revealed that he had arrived at Galle Face on a scooter along with the other SLPP supporters.

The police have also identified that this arrested suspect is believed to have driven the the later torched army bus and parked it in front of the protesters, during the Mirihana protest.

This person was also spotted speaking against the protesters during the protest in front of the parliament on the 5th of May.

Meanwhile, it is reported that MP Johnston Fernando and several other parliamentarians are to be summoned to the CID on next Monday.

The CID today recorded statements from the IGP, the Commanding Officer of the Special Task Force (STF) and the DIG in charge of the Police Special Bureau regarding the attack on protesters at Galle Face and Kollupitiya. (NewsWire)
