The unloading of Liquid Petroleum (LP) gas from a ship has commenced this morning, Litro Gas Lanka announced today.
An official from Litro Gas said that 2500 metric tonnes of LP gas are being unloaded from a ship anchored off the coast of Sri Lanka.
The LP gas is being unloaded from the ship to the Litro Gas storage terminal at Kerawalapitiya, the official said.
Stating that the distribution of gas had commenced from 07 am today, he said the company was able to provide the necessary stocks of gas to the consumers by this afternoon.
The official revealed that initially gas will be distributed to essential sectors, such as hospitals, adding that the distribution will first cover the Western Province.
The ship contains 3600 metric tonnes of gas only, while Sri Lanka’s daily gas requirement is 1100 metric tonnes.
Thereby, the current stock of fuel is expected to be sufficient only for the next 3 days. (NewsWire)
