A gas shortage has been reported once again in several parts of the country. Gas dealers and consumers alike have complained of a gas scarcity in the market.
Media reports claim that Litro gas sources have revealed that the distribution of gas had come to a complete halt since last Friday.
Accordingly, the issue of gas cylinders to crematoriums, factories and large scale hotels has also been stopped.
The Litro sources has further revealed that tankers carrying gas have been anchored in Sri Lankan waters for the past six days and the non-issuance of letters of credit (LC) by Sri Lankan commercial banks in the face of the dollar crisis has caused the issue.
The shortage of gas in the market has affected many sectors including restaurants and bakeries.
Bakery and confectionery associations have said that 75% of bakeries will have to shut down in the future if fuel and gas shortages continue in the next three days.
Meanwhile, several protests were held yesterday and today demanding the government to immediately resolve the issues including the gas shortage. (NewsWire)
