The Registrar of Pesticides Dr. J.A Sumith will be removed from his post over a Gazette notification that was issued last night, Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage has announced.
He said Dr. J.A. Sumith will be removed from his post over the Gazette notification that was issued yesterday lifting the ban on the sale and use of Glyphosate and five other agrochemicals.
Minister Aluthgamage further said that measures will also be taken to revoke the said Gazette notification.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of Pesticides Dr. J.A Sumith stated that the Minister cannot remove him from his post.
Sumith added that he had issued the Gazette lifting the ban on Glyphosate and several other agrochemicals following the approval from the Legal draftsman.
The ban on several pesticides, including Glyphosate, Propanil, Carbary1, Cholopyrifos, and Carbofuran were imposed in 2014. (NewsWire)
