GMOA writes to President on Ven. Muruththetuwe thero’s appointment

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has objected to the appointment of Venerable Muruththetuwe Ananda Thero as the Chancellor of the University of Colombo.

In a five-point letter addressed to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Association said that the University of Colombo, being the first university established in Sri Lank with the highest-ranking among the country’s universities is considered as the pinnacle of higher education in Sri Lanka.

As such, the Chancellor of such a university should reflect the academic prowess of this prestigious institution and Venerable Muruththetuwe Ananda Thero does not have the requisite academic background to hold the said post, the GMOA pointed out.

The Association has called on the President to reconsider his decision on the appointment of Venerable Muruththetuwe Ananda Thero and appoint him to another suitable portfolio. (NewsWire)
