Govt increases three key allowances

The government has decided to increase the monthly allowances granted for senior citizens and persons with disabilities and kidney ailments. 

State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said the Rs.5,000 allowance given to kidney patients and persons with disabilities will be increased to Rs.7,500.

He further said that the Rs.2,000 senior citizen allowance will be increased to Rs.3,000.

The State Minister noted that the increased allowances will be provided with effect from January this year.

State Minister Semasinghe added that ‘Aswesuma’ Welfare Benefit recipients within these categories will receive the increment from April 01, 2024. (NewsWire)
