Harin believes Ranjan will be released tomorrow or on Monday

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member Ranjan Ramanayake will most likely be released tomorrow (26) or on Monday (29), Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando said.

In a message on Facebook, the minister said a request had been made from President Ranil Wickremesinghe for the release of former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake.

Minister Fernando said that the request had been put forward by Minister Manusha Nanayakkara and himself.

Meanwhile, actor and politician Ranjan Ramanayake has apologized for committing contempt of court.

In an affidavit to the court, he said his comments were untrue and that he would withdraw the said comments.

In January 2021, Ramanayake was convicted over contempt of court charges and was sentenced to a prison term of four years of rigorous imprisonment.

Despite several appeals for a special presidential pardon, Ramanayake is currently continuing to serve his prison term. (NewsWire)
