Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha de Silva says he will only accept the ministerial portfolio of Finance under an all-party national government.
The SJB MP said he was ready to accept the Ministry of Finance only if a national government was formed with the participation of all political parties representing Parliament.
Stating that by accepting the Finance Ministry portfolio the country’s issues will not be resolved, MP Harsha de Silva said all political parties must work together for that.
The SJB MP pointed out that accepting the Finance Ministry portfolio under the current setup will be a personal victory for him, reiterating that “ If I am to accept the Finance Ministry, I must accept it under a national government.”
“I am 100 percent ready to dedicate myself to the country. There should be a national government for that. Being independent and joining the government is not what is called a national government. All political parties such as SLPP, SJB, TNA, and JVP must get together. Why can’t we do that for a national requirement?,” he asked.
MP Harsha de Silva also called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to clearly state the time frame of implementing the Constitutional Amendment to abolish the executive presidency as suggested by the SJB.
“We are not urging him to do it overnight. He can give a time frame to do that. The ball is in the President’s court now. It is his turn to play,” he said. (NewsWire)
