The Government has been urged by health authorities to refrain from reopening the country fully when deciding to lift the existing quarantine curfew.
Speaking to reporters today, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said the health authorities have requested the Government that the country should not be opened fully at once.
Stating that there could be loopholes if the country is fully opened at once, he said this could result in the improved situation turning to worse.
Dr. Herath said therefore, it was only sensible to reopen the country in stages, which will enable the authorities to monitor if there are any risk factors that could increase the number of Covid cases again
Recently there have been talks that the islandwide quarantine may be lifted by next week and not 01st October as previously announced, as the authorities have seen an improvement in the current coronavirus situation in the country.
