The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickremeratne has ordered an immediate investigation into the recent statement of former LTTE commander Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias ‘Karuna Amman.
Police Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne said the investigation will be conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Karuna Amman had glorified the killing of troops while addressing a political rally in Amapara last Friday (19).
Addressing the crowd, Kruna said that he was more dangerous than the Coronavirus, as he had killed between 2000- 3000 troops at Elephant pass during the war.
Following his statement, Karuna came under fire, with many including politicians slamming his statement and calling for his arrest.
In response, Karuna Amman said he was firm in his statement, adding that those who are calling for his arrest cannot be deemed innocent.
“I have only stated what the world knows. I cannot be arrested over such a statement. Who are these individuals calling for my arrest? One is Navin Dissanayake. His United National Party supplied necessary weapons to the LTTE. I am a witness to it. Another person is Anura Kumara Dissanayake. He is the leader of the organized gang that killed thousands of youth. What authority do they have to call for my arrest?” he said.
Karuna further said his statement is true and he stands firm by it, as it is the truth.
People who know the history will know the truth, but political debaters will not understand the meaning, he added.
