The Police have been deployed to provide special security to churches around the island.
On the instructions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne, the Police has been deployed to provide special security to churches conducting Christmas services both today and tomorrow (Christmas Day).
Most churches around the island are conducting Christmas mass for a limited congregation.
“Christmas should be celebrated this year remembering the poor, who have been severely affected by Covid-19” Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said making a request from the Christian community last week.
The Cardinal stressed the need to “concentrate on a spiritual celebration of Christmas and encourage everyone to share the joy of Christmas with those brothers and sisters who have been deprived of joy and happiness due to the Covid 19 pandemic.”
