Indian remanded for damaging Buddha statue dies

An Indian national who was remanded for allegedly damaging a statue of Lord Buddha has died due to a sudden illness.

The Police said the man had been arrested for damaging the statue in Kuliyapitiya.

The suspect who was detained at the Wariyapola prison had been hospitalized after he had sudden difficulty in breathing last night.

The Police said the suspect had died upon admission to the Wariyapola hospital. The deceased is a 45-year-old Indian national.

The body of the deceased has been placed at the Wariyapola hospital for a PCR to be conducted. (NewsWire)
