An islandwide lockdown will come into effect from 10.00 pm today, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella announced.
Minister Rambukwella said that the lockdown will be imposed from 10 pm today (20) till 04.00 am on Monday, the 30th of August 2021.
He further said that all essential services will function as normal.
Minister Rambukwella requested all Sri Lankan citizens adhere to the law and stay at home.
Meanwhile, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said essential services, including agriculture, and apparel will be permitted to operate during the lockdown.
He further said pharmacies will also be allowed to function during the islandwide lockdown.
The Sri Lanka Army and the health sector will continue vaccination of those over 60 years of age against Covid-19 during this period, the Army Commander added. (NewsWire)
