Island-wide power failure reported

Sri Lanka is currently experiencing an Island-wide Power failure.

According to reports, the power outage has occurred due to a malfunction in the 03 sub-stations supplying electricity to the National Grid.

The power outage comes at a time when employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) are engaged in a work-to-rule campaign.

The token strike is being conducted to protest against the Government’s decision to sell 40% stake of the state-owned Yugadhanavi LNG power plant in Kerawalapitiya to US firm, New Fortress.

The matter has also been challenged at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.

The protesting employees have previously announced that they will only report to work for 08 hours.

They have also warned that they will not engage in any power restoration work after 04.15 pm on workdays. (NewsWire)
