Jeevan resigns, CWC leaves Govt

State Minister of Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure Jeevan Thondaman has tendered his resignation.

Thondaman has reportedly handed over his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today.

Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) leader Senthil Thondaman said the party has decided to remain independent in Parliament.

The CWC is the second party to announce its decision to function as an independent group in Parliament.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday quit the Government and announced that it will function as an independent group in Parliament when it convenes today.

The CWC’s Jeevan Thondaman has resigned from his ministerial portfolios along with several other state ministers, who had also resigned due to the public protests underway against the President and the Government.

The public has taken to the streets to voice their displeasure over the conduct of the President and the Government which has led to the worsening economic crisis in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Jeevan Thondaman’s resignation comes after the CWC held a discussion with the President yesterday.

The meeting that was held at the Presidential Secretariat, had reportedly focused on the establishment of a university in the upcountry, and the daily wage of plantation workers, among other issues. (NewsWire)
