Justice Minister tells why he thinks President shouldn’t resign abruptly

Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapakshe has highlighted a possible situation which may arise if President Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigns abruptly.

“They are asking the President to resign. If that problem resolves, what will be the next problem? What will happen if he resigns? The SLPP has a majority in Parliament today. A President must be elected from the Parliament” he said.

He further explained that it is Basil Rajapaksa who controls majority of the SLPP MPs and if the incumbent President resigns, there is a possibility that Basil Rajapaksa can become the President. (NewsWire)
