Kratom, Thailand’s next strategy to fight drugs

In an effort to fight drugs, the Thai government decided to remove Kratom from its national drugs list, allowing plant, sell, and use for personal propose, in the belief that it would help to take over Amphetamine’s market share in a short time. Kratom leaf consists of Mitragynine, similar to psilocybin and LSD in terms of CNS depressant, growing in Southeast Asia and has been stated as type 5 drugs like cannabis 76 years ago. It acts as a central nervous system depressant as well as medicinal purposes as it relieves pain and makes its users feel energetic and cause a feeling of euphoria in addition to drowsiness. Some people take Kratom to avoid symptoms of opiate withdrawal, especially since Kratom is more easily purchased than prescription drugs.

Wichai Chaimongkhon – Secretary-General of Narcotics Control Board said

“Drugs aren’t only chemicals. There are also plants such as Marijuana, Hemp, and Kratom which are considered economic crops. Though it was stated as a drug, it has many benefits for research medical usage. UN doesn’t consider it as drugs – unlike Marijuana.”

“Minister of Ministry of Justice went on many surveys with locals in Southern and Pathum Thani. It turned out that with some practical controls Kratom will be more advantages. Thus, he had ONCB rewrite the drugs act to be the 8th act. It’s already declared in the government gazette and will be effective on August 24th of this year.”

Boonnak Waipan – daily worker said

“Just tear it off like this. You may eat it as a whole but this part is hard so just eat the rest like this.”

“Some say it can heal diabetes, high blood pressure, dizziness. It can heal many illnesses so they eat it often. Just eat before you go to bed or evening.”
