Local Rugby begins in a bio-secure bubble after 18 months

The Air Force Commander’s Cup Rugby Tournament begins in a bio-secure bubble.

The first leg of the Air Force Commander’s Cup Rugby Tournament commenced on 13 August 2021 at the Air Force Base Rugby Ground, Ratmalana, under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The tournament was organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force under the supervision of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana with the aim of promoting rugby, on the instructions of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Namal Rajapaksa.

CH & FC turned victorious with a score of 23 points (2 tries, 2 conversions, 3 penalty) against the Air Force Team who made 21 points (2 tries, 1 conversions, 3 penalties).

All the athletes and support staff who participated in the tournament have been training from within the bio-secure bubble which will be active until August 20, 2021, to prevent any health risks during the tournament.
