LPL denies media reports on dispute with Softlogic

Lanka Premier League (LPL) organizers have refuted media reports claiming that Softlogic Holdings PLC had defaulted on sponsorship funds for the Colombo Stars team.

Media reports claimed the default in payments by Softlogic, which owned the Colombo Stars team led by Angelo Mathews last year, has forced LPL- co-organizer, IPG Group to find a new sponsor.

However, LPL promoter and Chairman of IPG Group Anil Mohan told NewsWire that the reports claiming that Softlogic Holdings PLC had withdrawn from the LPL due to a payment dispute are false.

He further clarified that LPL and Softlogic Holdings PLC had parted ways with a mutual understanding and the local company will continue to support Lanka Premier League through other means.

“Even though Softlogic will part ways with the LPL and will no longer be a team owner, they will extend their support to the cricket tournament through other ways,” Anil Mohan added.

The 4th edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be held from July 31 to August 22, 2023, with the five-team tournament being played in three international venues. (NewsWire)
