The Indian Cricket Board is learnt to have contacted former Sri Lanka captain and current Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene with the offer of Coaching the Indian Cricket Team.
According to the Indian Express Newspaper, Mahela Jayawardena has declined the offer citing several reasons.
“Jayawardene, who has guided Mumbai Indians to multiple IPL titles, is said to be interested in coaching the Sri Lankan team, and the IPL franchise. An India coach cannot take up any other cricketing assignment as the new BCCI constitution doesn’t allow any individual to hold two posts at the same time.” The Indian Express Newspaper reported.
The tenure of current Indian cricket team Head Coach Ravi Shastri is coming to an end after the conclusion of the 2021 T20 World Cup. And, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now on the lookout for the man who can replace Shastri as the Head Coach of the Indian cricket team.
Mahela Jayawardena is expected to help the Sri Lanka U-19 team in a voluntary basis after the IPL. (NewsWire)
