Maithri highlights worst agriculture crisis, speaks about Amarabandu Rupasinghe

Sri Lanka is facing the worst ever agricultural tragedy at present, with farmers being rendered helpless due to the fertilizer and food crises, former President Mathirpala Sirisena has revealed.

Stating that the country was going through the worst ever agricultural tragedy, he raised doubts on whether he will be accepted in his hometown Pollonaruwa if he was to visit in the near future.

Sirisena, who is the Chairman of the SLFP, pointed out that the farmers have become aggressive due to the pressure on the farming community.

The former President called on the Government to hold discussions with the affected farmers, by visiting their villages.

He made the observation at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Headquarters yesterday to commemorate the 21st death anniversary of the late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike. (NewsWire)
