Maithri says no money to pay compensation, says only owns Mango farm

Former President Maithripala Sirisena says that he has no means to pay the Rs. 100 million compensation to the victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks as ordered by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.

Addressing the media today, Sirisena said that he has been ordered to pay compensation to take responsibility for the negligence of the officers who had been appointed by him.

Stating that he does not have assets amounting to Rs. 100 million, the former President said that he currently owns only a mango farm.

He further said that he will settle the compensation by collecting money from his close associates. (NewsWire)
