Matheesha Pathirana arrives in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana returned to Sri Lanka last night after being ruled out of the ICC World Cup 2023 due to an injury. Pathirana last played against Pakistan, during which he sustained a shoulder injury, which subsequently forced him out of Sri Lanka’s all-important fixtures against Australia and the Netherlands.

Pathirana has now returned home, although there is still no official word from Sri Lanka Cricket or the ICC about his withdrawal from the tournament. The ICC technical committee has to approve the withdrawal, and it’s reported that the Sri Lanka team’s medical management has submitted the papers to release Matheesha Pathirana.

Accordingly, while a replacement for the key pace bowler is yet to be officially announced, Dushmantha Chameera or Angelo Mathews will take his position. (NewsWire)
