Milk powder importers say the price of a kilo of milk powder has been increased once again.
The importers said a decision has been taken to increase the price of a one-kilo packet of milk powder from Rs. 1345 to Rs. 1945.
The price of a 400g packet of milk powder has been increased from Rs. 540 to Rs. 800.
The milk powder importers said the State Minister of Consumer Affairs was informed of the decision, after which the price of one kilo and 400g packets of milk powder have been increased by Rs. 600 and Rs. 260, respectively.
They pointed out that the price of a kilo of milk powder in the global market has increased from US$ 2.80 to US$ 5.30.
The milk powder importers further pointed out that the depreciation of the Sri Lanka rupee from Rs. 202 to Rs. 280 against the US dollar has also resulted in the price hike of milk powder. (NewsWire)
