Chief government whip Minister Johnston Fernando said in Parliament yesterday that as a government they will not allow to question or arrest any MP based on speeches made in parliament as it is a parliamentary privilege of MPs.
Johnston Fernando was responding to a question raised by opposition leader Sajith Premadasa on speculations of arresting SJB MP Harin Fernando under the Prevention of Terrorism Act based on several revelations made by him in parliament earlier this week regarding the 2019 Easter attacks.
Johnson Fernando further went on to say that as per his understanding this summoning could be to question Harin Fernando on contradictory statements made by him on who informed him of possible attacks on churches on Easter Sunday, as he had previously told it’s his father who informed him but testified before the commission probing Easter attacks, that it was his sister who informed him.
Harin Fernando was summoned to appear before the CID to record a statement with regard to the Easter attacks investigations. However, he is currently hospitalized at a private hospital in Colombo. (NewsWire)
