Customs restrictions imposed on the Chinese-Mongolian border and delays in the transportation process contributed to a shortage of materials and goods as well as a doubling of their costs in local markets. Traders and citizens attributed the substantial increase in the prices of building materials and other items since last July to high demand and transportation expenses.
In an interview with A24, G.Erdenebayar- Citizen said, “In general, the price of construction materials has increased. When I made DSP plates for kitchen furniture last April, one tile cost 60,000 MNT. When I tried to get it yesterday, it was 75,000. When asked why the price was raised, the sellers said, “Transportation prices have risen and inventory is stuck at the border.” Prices are relatively good for small inventories, but noticeable for large ones.”
In an interview with A24, D.Jargal- Citizen said, “Transportation costs are increasing in price. Commodity prices have not risen in China. The price of construction materials may have risen due to inflation and transportation costs. Probably, most of Mongolians pockets are getting empty due to the wrong ambitions of a group of politicians.”
In an interview with A24, B.Chuluunbaatar- Citizen said, “When I went to check the price of construction materials by myself, it was too expensive. People say it’s expensive, but I’ve tried it myself, and it’s really expensive. With vacuum windows, the price is doubled. Last year it was 120,000 m2, now it is 270,000. I don’t know if there is a way to drop it.”
