More allegations have been levelled against the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Ranmal Kodituwakku with regard to the recent incident of assault that was reported in the Kiriella area.
The SDIG along with two other Police officers were initially accused of assaulting the driver of a vehicle along the Ratnapura – Kiriella road while asking for his drivers’ licence.
Video footage of the incident had gone viral on social media, following which the SDIG was transferred to the Police Medical Service, Welfare, and Field Force Headquarters.
However, in a letter addressed to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the victim has accused SDIG Ranmal Kodituwakku of having been assaulted further upon being arrested for overtaking the SDIG’s vehicle in Kiriella.
The victim revealed that the SDIG had further assaulted him on his neck, head, stomach, and genitals at the Kiriella Police Station.
The victim has also accused the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of having stripped him naked, assaulted him, and sexually tortured him.
In his letter, the victim has also accused several other Police officers at the Kiriella Police station of having aided SDIG Ranmal Kodituwakku to commit the said offences.
The lawyers representing the victim, through the letter, have requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to conduct an impartial inquiry and initiate legal action against the culprits.
Meanwhile, SDIG Ranmal Kodituwakku has denied the allegations, stating that individuals who were arrested by him and certain Police officers have fueled the incident out of jealousy. (NewsWire)
