MP Wijedasa files FR case related to SLIIT

Sri Lankan lawyer and politician Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition at the Supreme Court alleging that the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) has been handed over to a company by the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust in a fraudulent manner.

Stating that he had revealed the malpractice relating to the agreements previously, he said action has not been taken in this regard as yet to rectify the matter.

MP Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa said that this agreement has resulted in a loss of Rs. 40,000 million to the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund.

The former Minister said that in 2018 a cabinet decision was taken to cancel the current agreements and handover the complete ownership to the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund, but it was not implemented.

Rajapakshe has named the Cabinet of ministers, including the PM, Members of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, the IGP, Attorney General, members of the SLIIT and the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund as respondents. (NewsWire)
