Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has invited legendary Sri Lankan Cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene to be part of the National Sports Council, which will advice the sports minister on sports policy matters.
New members of the national sports council are expected to be named later today. A senior sports ministry official told NewsWire that both former Cricketers are expected to be part of the council which will be appointed under the Sports Law of 1973 (Section 25 Clause 4) for two years.
Their main task will be to advice the Minister on matters connected to developing sports in the country.
Apart from Sangakkara and Jayawardena, several others comprising dynamic mix of professionals who have been consistently committed towards uplifting sports in Sri Lanka are expected to be a part of this list.
